Buying a gift for a new baby can be difficult when parents already have everything they need. Here are some tips to create the perfect gift for a new baby.

Often new parents are overwhelmed with gifts on the birth of their baby. In most cases, parents have already bought all the necessary items, or have had a previous child and the gifts they do receive are unneeded. Gift baskets and hampers make great gift ideas for new parents and can be filled with useful and practical items for the baby and parents. Here are some tips for items to include in a gift basket for a new baby.

Selecting A Gift Basket

When deciding what to put items in, consider a small wash basin instead of a basket. A wash basin is a more practical alternative to a basket and will be handy for soaking baby clothes and freshening up the baby. If gift givers prefer to use a basket, choose a coloured basket to match the sex of the baby or ensure the handle is wide enough to tie a large bow. Baby baths and nappy buckets are also ideal containers to hold gifts.

Items To Include In A Gift Basket

Photo frames, albums and scrapbooks are ideal items to include in a gift hamper. It will give parents a place to store the many photographs that are taken of their baby in the first few weeks. Baby clothing can be included in the gift basket, but do not go overboard. Babies grow so quickly and the chances are, parents already have a selection of clothing.

Baby clothing suitable for a gift basket include:

  • singlets
  • disposable nappies
  • personalised clothing, for example, a shirt with the child's name
  • socks
  • bibs

Having a baby is an expensive time for new parents. Include items in the gift basket that parents will use and save money by not having to buy. These items may include:

  • baby wipes
  • hand sanitiser
  • laundry soaker
  • creams and lotions
  • powder
  • baby oil
  • soap or liquid soap
  • change mats
  • prepackaged baby food

Personalised Baby Gifts

Personalised gifts make great keepsakes for the child. Try to include at least two personalised items in a gift basket. Personalised gifts also show that a great deal of thought has been put into the gift. The baby's name or initials and birthdate can be embroidered on a variety of items including:

Creating a gift basket for new parents adds a personalised touch and will be seen as a thoughtful gesture. From teddy bears and books, to clothing and towels there are many items to include in the basket to create a unique and cherished gift for new parents.
